Long ago, the world was ruled by ancient elemental powers of nature. Given a chance in a dark future, they will prove they are just a strong, just as powerful, just as deadly as they were five hundred years ago...
The medieval/fantasy genre is one of the most popular genres there is; elements from it are used and reused and often abused in several other elements besides its own. People love the chivalrous knights, the damsels in distress, the raging monsters. And more often than not, there is plenty to make parodies of and joke about; the inconsistencies, the impossibilities, and the sheer stupidity in some cases, are all fair game in a good spoof. While exploring some ideas for spoofs of these cliches, I ended up (quite by accident) creating what is probably the "anti-hero" of such a story, and so giving birth to "Sacred Stones."
But that isn't the whole point of "Sacred Stones." While it's another grand medieval/fantasy epic-level adventure, with a very healthy dose of sarcasm, humor, and regular commentary on the more amusing elements of the genre, its underlying story is a rather unique perspective of words thrown about in these epic fantasies, such as "gods" and "destiny." You will meet characters that are possessed (and dispossessed), true courage and the strength that an advantage gives cowards, cursed everyday objects, and most importantly, extremely sentient and violent magic. Unlike virtually every other fantasy story out there nowadays, the magic in this world is not at the sole whim of the person trying to use it. In fact, the magic is more often the master rather than the servant...
Greetings; my name is Jennifer Sheldon, the creator and writer of the webcomic "Sacred Stones." I am a Communications student, currently studying media and film history with the goal of eventually going into animation. As busy as I am, there are five reasons I wanted to create "SS" and share it:
- To practice and gain experience with layouts and scenes
- To practice computer coloring techniques and skills, and to enhance my speed with them
- To practice postures, poses, and scenes that I am learning
- To tell a story in a visual format, for the benefit of friends and family as well as practice my storyboarding skills
- To join the webcomic community I enjoy exploring
My goals include writing books and becoming an animator, which will allow me to work with pencil and imagination as a career. Because this comic is free, first priority goes to my school and work, which is why the style of this comic sometimes changes between updates. It was restarted on June 4, 2011, with a basically-the-same plot as before, but enhanced to give a more comprehensive storyline.
Please feel free to message me any questions or comments you have on my comic, and I hope you enjoy the story!
- Jennifer
